I love the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World as it contains action, comedy, and romance in video-game-like reality. The character Ramona Flowers wore funky fashionable outfits that inspired me. She would do bold things like change up her hair color every week and half as if it was no big deal. On the other hand, I feared what others would think of me and even began to question how I felt about myself. Why couldn’t I consider myself to be adventurous and cool, like Ramona Flowers? Why couldn’t I do bold things without the concern of how others would react to my decisions? It took time to overcome this fear, but eventually I decided to bleach, cut, and dye my own hair.
As I exit my twenties, I am finally embracing a care-free attitude in my life. Often, this attitude reflects in my clothing. My current closet has more color and texture than it has ever had and that is because I am no longer afraid of exploring new looks. It also helps to have a vivid imagination to visualize outfits in your head.
Being able to envision outfits while having a open mind can create boundless possibilities for anyone’s wardrobe. My closet consists of many simple staples but I also welcome unique prints and fits that brings joy to my life. The truth is I like getting dressed because my wardrobe allows me to express how I am feeling.

Whether you are shopping in stores or exploring your own closet, I would recommend wearing clothing that makes you happy. Wear something that makes YOU feel comfortable and confident. I understand how important appearances can be, and to some degree everyone is self conscience about their look. But does it really matter what others think? Shouldn’t the value of how we feel about ourselves mean more?
Confidence is the sexiest thing anyone could wear. When you love what you wear and feel amazing, poise just oozes out. The simplest of outfits become more chic and the funkiest of outfits become cool as hell.
Dare to not care, it will open your eyes and your heart to what really matters to you. Explore looks that genuinely interest you. Your individual fashion is one of kind so have fun with it. Feel free to draw inspirations from people and settings that speak to you.
My recent wardrobe update was inspired by my hair color. Dying my hair has been an extremely liberating experience. Pink, purple, and Teal hair introduced me to a new freedom and joy. These vibrant colors allowed me let go of my insecurities. I began to adopt more colors and prints regardless if they matched or clashed within the outfit.
Dying my hair was my new thing to try out but it doesn’t have to yours. Perhaps you are interested is venturing into hats, tops, different fits of jeans, or new footwear. Feel empowered to try something different.
Layer a leather jacket to give to your outfit elevation and edge. Wear a sleeveless top for comfort and confidence. Try a slim or wide leg jean to give your body a new silhouette. Wear a beanie or cap for function and flair. Whatever item you choose to try have fun figuring out what you do like.
Know there will always be moments of insecurity but always celebrate the growth accomplished. I hope you can experience the art of caring less not just for the benefit of your wardrobe but for your life.
Know that your best years are NOT yet to come, your best years are happening right NOW. Avoid the worry of what others think and do what makes you happy. And for this articles purpose, wear whatever the fuck you want.
